Writing for radio.
In a visual world, I still love giving people an earful.
I’m not here to sell you on the fact that that radio is the hot, happening online media of the future. I’ll leave that for the media mavens. What I’d like to talk about is the pure joy of writing for radio. Creating spots that excite all 5 senses, using just one: hearing.
“Only trouble is interesting.”
That’s what my favorite writing professor always said.
I heard that phrase over and over for years. So often, in fact, that it stuck with me throughout almost anything I wrote in school, and into my writing career.
Before I share with you some of the work I’m proudest of, a few words about love. First, without love there’s no me. I just wanted to get that out of the way and thank my folks for it. And when it specifically comes to what I do, without love great campaigns would not exist. You might think,
"Who in their right mind would want to create ideas for an old, stodgy brand that has totally lost its relevance?" (Old Spice, Kraft Mac ‘n Cheese, and so on.) In the consumer promotion industry, we strive to create award-winning work in surprising ways that will motivate consumers to take action. Over the last 31 years, Alcone has won hundreds of awards for our work on both local and global initiatives, validating our creative and strategic work year after year. The award we're most proud of? The answer is easy: the Super REGGIE! Why is it called the REGGIE? Well, we're trying to make the register ring...REGGIE...ring...get it? Wordplay!
When I was asked to write a blog entry I jumped up with a Homer Simpson WOO HOO! Then it settled in. Oh crap…I have to take this seriously. “Activations Around The World” - what does that mean? I’m a Creative Director who likes craft and artistry. Can’t I have that subject?
Every month 'Retro Alcone' highlights an innovative product or program from Alcone's 30-year history of promotion marketing.
Now that we have reached those hot August days, my afternoons in the office are filled with dreams of cold, delicious ice cream. I can't help but remember a Ben & Jerry's item we produced back in 2002: the Euphori-Lock.
